Xin is a PhD student in Historic Preservation with research interests in architectural heritage preservation and conservation science, focusing on natural materials and earthen architecture. She holds a B.Eng. in Architectural Heritage Conservation from China and a joint master’s degree in Archaeological Materials Science from Italy, Greece, and Portugal. Her master’s research involved the mineralogical characterization and biodeterioration of natural stones applied in historic buildings, exploring the cultural connections behind these scientific findings.

Additionally, Xin is passionate about cultural heritage digitalization and public engagement. She worked as a cultural heritage conservation consultant in China, researching national and regional conservation policies and developing public participation strategies for UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the Great Wall, the Grand Canal, and Beijing Central Axis, integrating digital technologies into these projects. Her current research focuses on the preservation and conservation of earthen architecture, both in cultural and material aspects.
