Shadreck Chirikure is Professor of Archaeology, Department of Archaeology, University of Cape Town, and British Academy Global Professor, School of Archaeology, University of Oxford. Prof. Chirikure is a specialist in archaeological science with a particular focus on ancient metals as well as other materials and technologies, and the history of science and technology. He also researches comparative state formation in the tropics, food, technology and political economy and is engaged in community archaeology, heritage management and the archaeology of colonialism and post-colonialism. He has undertaken work in Africa, Europe, Central America and the Indian Ocean Rim.
Brian Clark is Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Prof. Clark is interested in complex civilizations in East Africa, though particularly post-Aksumite Ethiopia. There he focuses on the history and archaeology of church-state relations, the institution of mobile capitals, and the diversity of urban forms found in Africa.
