Abstract: Archaeology has, for long, maintained a rather bittersweet relation with modernity and, particularly, with one of its most important products: the nation-states and the process of nation-building. For many years, a large body of literature has addressed the pernicious effects of the use of archaeological narratives in nationalist projects. Following the intense debate in anthropological, sociological, political, and philosophical terms, however, the reconfigurations of societies is still an unexplored theme, archaeologically speaking. How can archaeology contribute to the imagining of new models of society or be part of the debates about new configurations of the national?
